The Gospel According to a Baby Finch: Part Two

Aug 15, 2025

Rushing is one of the easiest ways to sabotage yourself; or others.

Last week I talked about nudging a baby bird to do the thing God made it to do: fly.

A few days later, one of its siblings started to step toward the edge of the nest. Started to being the distinction between its confidence-level and its sibling a few days before.

That difference was dangerous; and I didn’t take the time to think about it.

I did the same thing with it as I did with its sibling, tapping on the window behind the nest.

The baby bird took off and then nose-dived into our front-yard.

He flew a few feet, then tire out and fall back to the earth. On and on this went for several minutes.

I don’t know what happened to that bird, because I had to leave for work. But one thing I do know is: I rushed him. His sibling was ready to do the thing God made him to do. He wasn’t, and I sabotaged him.

Learn from me: don’t rush others, even if you’re trying to get them to do the thing God made them to do. They have to be ready, and if they’re not, you might sabotage them.
