This is temporary.
Nov 11, 2025
I don’t know about you, but I’m big on routine. So much so, whenever I’m plopped into a new situation that throws me out of my routine, I do everything I can, as quickly as I can, to get back to my normal routine. Which is:
- Up at 5 AM.
- Cold shower.
- Pray, journal, set to-do’s.
- Write till 7 AM.
- Train.
- Work from 10AM - 8PM.
- Bed at 9 Pm.
If you follow me on LinkedIn, then you know I got promoted to Multi-Unit Manager this past week. The only problem is, the store I took over needs the most help and coaching on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3PM-1AM. You can imagine how much that shook my sleep schedule, which jacked up my routine.
It sucks in the interim, don’t get me wrong. But one way I stave off any self-sabotage in the form of overwhelm, anxiety, or irritability is reminding myself that this is temporary. When I remind myself of that fact, a few things happen:
- Not to be redundant, but it is a fact. It isn’t forever. This jacked-up schedule will come to an end.
- It motivates me to coach and develop the team as quickly as possible, (making the temporary timeline even more so) so they don’t need me for dinner and Fourth Meal.
- I get back to my routine; that is, until the next opportunity or promotion presents itself because let’s face it: whether your routine is regular or all-over-the-place, one thing is certain: this is temporary.
